Level: Beginner glass experience an asset but not necessary
Tuesdays October 13-November 3, 2020 6-9p
In this 4-week introductory fusing & slumping class, students will be taught various glass fusing techniques, including mosaics, frit patterns, and glass cutting techniques. During week 1&2 students will make fused glass art such as suncatchers, ornaments, and plant stakes. In week 3&4 students will explore use of molds in slumping and frit casting. Kiln preparation and firing schedules will also be covered, giving students a well rounded introduction into fused glass and slumping,
no experience necessary, all supplies & tools included.
Week 1 – Introduction to tools, basic glass cutting, frit and mosaic designs. Project – Suncatchers, Ornaments, Plant stakes
Week 2 – Intermediate cutting techniques, circles, curves, and more complicated forms. Project – Medium sized suncatcher
Week 3 – Review, introduction to slumping, supplies, kiln set up and technical considerations Project - Create two 8" slumping projects using scrap piece
Week 4 - Review of slumping projects, using frit and frit casting using Creative Paradise molds and option to slump your project. Project- Frit cast flower
Gabby Wilson Gabriela is a Guelph based artist, specializing in glass and metal. Gabriela has studied art, design, jewelry, gemology and glass, at Sheridan College, Corning Museum of Glass, Pilchuck Glass School and Penland School of Craft, to name a few. Gabriela has teaching experience as both an instructor in her own studio and assisting other instructors at various workshops both in Canada and the US.
