Leponitt Narrow Nose Grozer PCJ-5

I recently started doing stained glass. This was my first visit to Lucent Glass. It was two hours drive from where we live to Guelph. I was lured with promise of party, great discounts and great selection, based on E-mails and phone conversation with one of the employees.
I had list of things I needed - Homasote board, tools and pretty glass being on the top of my list. I returned home pretty deflated:
I returned without any exciting purchase or any discount. 😔
First of all, out of 13 different items I had purchased, not single one had ANY discount. That much for special day… And let’s face it, no goes there to eat/oarty, the great finds are what we are after.
This was the most expensive glass store (by far) that I have visited up to this point.
Now, about my purchase:
- I wasn’t paying much attention when girl handed me the 24”x24” Homasote board but at home I realized that one side had circular dents, like from the push pins and the other side had some bumpy texture/raised surface in sections, like scarring. I might be O. K. for cutting smaller glass pieces but I worry that bumpy surface might affect glass cutting of bigger pieces. Bummer.
- The tools here cost at least 25-30% more than in our local glass stores. (I still bought one small cutter for $25 + tax even though in our local store the same one is $18+tax. I thought the promised discount would bring it closer but apparently there weren’t any discounts on staff I needed.
- Other than glass, the supplies in the store were sufficient but pretty basic - I couldn’t find half of the things from my list.
- As for the glass, I fell in love with some pieces that were advertised over E-mail, but couldn’t find any of them available in the store even though we came just half an hour after the opening. I assume they had only one of each and that they were sold. Too bad. However, they still had wonderful pieces on the shelf. I was very tempted to buy some even though I didn’t need those colours. I found quite few beautiful pieces, but grossly overpriced. E. G. Gorgeous but smallish glass pieces (that were third or quarter of square foot) were priced around hundred dollars each - which makes it 300-400$ for square of glass! I was in disbelief. I now have new appreciation for glass stores in Toronto. MUCH more affordable.
I ended up buying just few sheets of glass from clearance bin.
That being said, the store itself was beautiful, very clean, safe and well organized. Staff was sweet and friendly. What I particularly liked was the fact that almost all the glass had stickers with the brand name and prices on them. That makes the browsing much easier. Based on my first experience, this store might not be my first (or second or third) choice, but if I get rich I’ll be back for few glass sheets that caught my eye.
